This source code will provide a huge headstart in developing your own racing/shooting game hybrid for iOS.

The Bird Rage game kit is a fully featured Objective C++ source code that will compile right out of the box. All you need to do is replace graphics, sounds, etc. to make it your own. More details on features will be outlined in the sections below.

At the time of this posting, there are only TWO other apps using this source code, both of which are mine: Bird Rage and Jetpack Racer*

To get the best idea of the nuances of the Bird Rage game kit, I encourage you to download the games already made with the source code above so you can get an idea of what gameplay is like.

*Uses an older version of the game. Does not include NextPeer or social sharing features.

Game Features

I describe Bird Rage has a racing game "with a twist."

This twist is, you can actually be knocked out of a race if you lose enough "armor" (or whatever you want to call your characters' protective casing).

Here's a more traditional laundry list of features:

  • 9 built-in tracks, each with increasing difficulty. Start off with one, unlock the rest has you complete races. There's no way to "buy your way" through.
  • Race against AI OPPONENTS. They will not only race against you, but push you into mines, other obstacles, and oh yeah... shoot at you.
  • Choose from four different characters, each with varying "skill" levels. Some have better acceleration, speed, and/or armor.
  • Facebook and Twitter integration. Share your score at the end of a race. Also includes "follow" buttons on the menu screen.
  • Buy per-race upgrades. Four levels of weapons, armor, and "engine" (or speed).
  • Allow users to purchase coins with real money. You can set your own prices.
  • You will win a certain amount of coins at the end of each race regardless, but can purchase large quantities of coins for real money.

I personally think it's annoying when you have to pay money to compete in a free game. In this one, you can always save coins up after successful races, for free.

Ad Network SDKs

There are only two: RevMob and ChartBoost.

There is documentation included to point you to where exactly to switch out the ad codes. It's pretty much just find and replace.

You're always welcome to integrate your own ad SDKs. I'm also open to suggestions for adding new ones.

I've tried a few and found these two to be the most successful for me, but maybe you have better ideas.

Other Stuff

There's NextPeer for "pseudo" multiplayer. Keep in mind that on your screen, you're still seeing the AI opponents. Please read more about how NextPeer works if you're not familiar with it.

There's GameCenter which is pretty self explanatory. Keep track of high scores and stuff.

Both of these are great for increasing user retention, and you don't have to worry about adding them yourself. All you have to do is switch out the IDs and register your new app in the respective registration screens.

Documentation and Integration

A documentation file is included with your purchase which details all the places you need to replace stuff (i.e. your ad company IDs, GameCenter, NextPeer info, etc.).

The game graphics use no "texture packers" so it's pretty much just a 1:1 image replacement as far as reskinning goes. Same deal with music/sounds.

      Hmm, well I definitely didn't upload it like that. Not sure why that is but if you give me an email address I can just send you a Dropbox link or email attachment (it's under 3 MB total) with the contents of that directory.
